Abstract
Periodontal disease has also been one of the major oral diseases as well as dental caries in Korea. The purpose of this study was to obtain the baseline data and to develop the preventive measure of periodontal disease for the amelioration of the
increasing oral health problem among male workers exposed to acids in Korea. The author examined 789 acid-exoposed male workers selected by cluster sampling among 34 factory using acid, during April 26th to June 5th, 1993. The community

Index of Treatment Needs were calculated and analyzed by age, years of employment and industrial type.
@ES The results obtained and the indices discussed were as follows:
@EN 1. The percentage of person without showing periodontal disease was 22.8%.
2. Percentages of person needing oral hygiene instruction, person needing oral prophylaxis and person needing complex periodontal care was 77.2%, 69.8% and 3.5, respectively.
3. mean number of sextants needing oral prophylaxis was 2.1.
4. The periodontal condition among the male workers exposed to acid was more aggravated than that of urban male in 35-44 years of age.
5. It could not be found that years of employment influenced on periodontal disease among the male workers exposed to acid.
6. To improve the periodontal health of the male workers exposed to acid, industry based incremental periodontal care program should be legally executed.
7. To improve the periodontal health among the workers, school based toothbrushing drill progarm, school oral health education program should be developed and executed.
